235 45 R18 Tyre Sizing

Are you looking to upgrade your current tyres or replace your existing 235/45/18 tyres? Whatever the reason for your purchase, ensure you’re investing in the correct size by rightly identifying the size you need. You can do this by looking at the sidewall of your existing tyre.

On the sidewall of your tyre, you’ll find a sequence of numbers which relate to the dimensions of your current tyre.

The first number indicates the width of the tyre, measured in mm. For example, a 235/45r18 tyre has a width of 235mm. The width of your tyre is measured from the end of the tyre to the other; from endpoint to endpoint.

The second figure in the sequence refers to the aspect ratio, also known as the tyre profile. The tyre aspect ratio is the ratio of the height of the tyre in comparison to the tyre width. For example, 235 45 r18 tyres have an aspect ratio of 45%. If you’re looking for tyres with a smaller tyre profile, we also provide tyres in sizes 235/35 r18 and 235/40 r18, as well as many more.

The third figure on the tyre sidewall is a letter. Most commonly, R, which stands for radial. A tyre with a radial (“R”) structure offers greater grip, a comfortable driving experience, increased durability and reduces fuel consumption.

The fourth figure relates to the diameter of the wheel, usually measured in inches. In the case of a 235 45 r18 tyre, these have a diameter of 18 inches. To measure the wheel diameter you should lay your tyre flat on its side and measure from top to bottom.

In some cases, you may also find that the tyre sidewall includes the load rating (the fifth figure) and the speed rating figure (the sixth figure).
